Enjoy an afternoon of beautiful music as Iraqi-American musicians mesmerize us with their talents!
Sallah Ali and the House of Tarab will perform vintage Arabic music on the oud, violin and drums. Sallah Ali is a classically trained musician who studied at Baghdad’s famed School of Music and Ballet.
Hassan Al-Mufti is a renowned and accomplished classical pianist, and is also a graduate of Baghdad’s School of Music and Ballet. Al-Mufti, now a New York resident, has held numerous performances for dignitaries abroad.
Saadoun Al-Bayati, a Goodman Theatre graduate, is both a gifted singer and talented percussionist whose performances are in demand across the United States.
The afternoon will also feature Mustafa Ghazwan and his father, Ghazwan Al-Nadawi. Mustafa lost his hearing to a US air strike in 2007 and was recently brought by No More Victims to San Francisco where he received a cochlear implant. Today, Mustafa can hear again.
Mustafa’s father will give a brief presentation, as will Cole Miller, Founder of No More Victims, a grassroots organization that connects American communities with war-injured Iraqi children.
Healing Harmonies is sponsored by UC Irvine’s MESSI (Middle East Student Studies Initiative), Department of Social Sciences.
