Asheville: Roses for Rusul
March 26th, 2008 |Asheville group has been busy promoting Rusul’s arrival and raising funds to cover the costs. We were invited to have a program on “No More Victims – Asheville” at Unitarian Universalist Church in Asheville on March 14, 2008. We showed the movie “Caught in the Crossfire” and then had Ann Cothran of Greenville speak to the group and talk about Rusul. About 35 people showed up for this event and we collected (or had pledged) about $350 in donations. The next day, we had a House Party, hosted by Jeanne and Lew Patrie. This was small in attendance, yet we still got over $360 in donations. A big THANK YOU to Jeanne and Lew for opening their home and their hearts to “No More Victims – Asheville”.
Rosebud Video has agreed to put out a display and collection jar for Rusul. I am working on getting that together.
Our upcoming events are centered on the weekend of April 12 – 13, 2008. Ann Cothran and Cole Miller will be coming up to Asheville for fundraising events. We have a ‘Walking Meditation’ planned for Saturday morning at the Baha’i Center. We will have meditations, close with a song, and sell “Roses for Rusul”.
Also on Saturday, April 12th, we will have a fund-raising dinner with extraordinary entertainment. Don Pedi, Bruce Greene and Kore Loy McWhirter will do some old time Appalachian music. Stephen Canner will play cello, Stack Kenny will play acoustic guitar, and Left of Center will do a musical comedy. We will hold a raffle too, with lots of terrific prizes.
On Sunday morning, April 13th, we were invited to do a presentation at All Souls Cathedral in Biltmore Village during their forum hour. We are working on getting another church lined up for a presentation on “No More Victims – Asheville”.
