Portland Community College: Looking Forward to Helping Naba
February 13th, 2008 | Posted by Kim WangemannHere at Portland Community College, advisor Kari Hanken and I have started a group to advocate for a little Iraqi girl. Naba was injured when US forces fired upon her family’s car in March, 2006. Her brother and father were killed, and Naba had serious injuries to her chest and arm. We are starting to plan fundraisers to help raise money for some surgery she will need.
One of the fundraising ideas is to have a day of fasting, where people give the money that they would normally spend on food for that day, and fast. We also have a car wash planned for when the weather gets warmer. We already love this little girl, and are so anxious to raise money for her and to help her heal. When I saw the pictures of her, I was so sad for what had happened to Naba. But also glad that I can make a difference.
